Website updating is an ongoing activity. Like housework, it never ends. Just when you think you did everything you need to do to update the copy on your website, something new happens in your organization that needs to be added. The difficulty most people have isn't getting new information added to their website, but getting the information in a form ready for the website. If you want people to return to your website, you need to give them a reason to do so. Changing what you have to say is one way. Introducing new products or services, changing an events calendar, providing a list of contacts under a password protected section, reporting on legislation that affects your industry and announcing awards and recognition for recent achievements, these are some of the types of items to be updated. Updating can also mean changing pictures, adding new pages and including files for download, such as PDFs. You can make any changes to your website that you want to keep it interesting for your visitors. You can make changes whenever you want. If you have a webmaster, you can have your information updated anytime you ask. The trick is to keep track of what needs to be updated and have it in a timely manner. Your webmaster can't do this for you. Regular updating means setting a schedule and keeping to it. Spreading the responsibility for different parts of the website can help, but someone has to crack the whip. Your best solution may be to outsource the work with contractor or consultant. If you have a small business this may be your only option if you want to keep your website fresh. |
